How to register

Anyone who wishes to be registered as a foreign lawyer from within or outside the EU is required to submit the following documents to the Advocate Bar Association Office in Poznań:

1. An application for registration as a foreign lawyer, stating which list is applicable :

list A – foreign lawyers from the European Union;

list B – foreign lawyers from outside the European Union.

The application for registration as a lawyer must state the following:

  • the applicant’s first and last name,
  • date, place, and country of birth,
  • place of residence and address for correspondence in their home country,
  • their professional seat in their home country, and the address,
  • the address of the professional seat to be used in Poland (address for correspondence),
  • the qualification conferred in their home country which is equivalent to that of advocate,
  • the name and address of the competent body in their home country being the registration body for the applicant,
  • the name of the competent body in their home country that issued a certificate stating that the foreign lawyer is registered as licensed to practice the profession,

the name and address of the professional group of which the foreign lawyer is a member in their home country, the form of that group, and the first names and surnames of the other members.

2. A certificate issued by the competent body in their home country, stating that the person applying to be registered as a foreign lawyer is registered as licensed to practice law in the home country. The Advocate Bar Council with which the application is filed may reject the certificate if it was issued more than three months beforehand.

3. A document confirming citizenship of the person applying for registration, certified as a true copy by a notary.

4. A statement from the Polish criminal register and criminal register in their home country dated no more than 30 days prior to the date on which it is submitted to the Advocate Bar Association in Poznań.

5.  Personal questionnaire.

6.  Two color photographs that meet the requirements for an identification document.

7. Confirmation of payment as required under the RBA resolution of 28.03.2008. (The resolution can be found under the tab “przepisy”).

IMPORTANT

The registration application must be in Polish. A Polish certified translation must be provided with any other documents not written in Polish.

If the applicant appoints a proxy to deal with all registration-related formalities, the proxy granted must be submitted with the application.
